I’m often asked, Why have therapy? Why not talk to my friends or family? The answer is simple. While some people are lucky enough to have this work for them, for a lot of people it is important to maintain some privacy in their lives, and it’s actually very difficult for friends and family to be objective.
When someone knows you very well, what happens in your life affects theirs to some degree, so any support they offer is prejudiced by that simple truth.
Therapy offers you an objective view of your situation with no agenda, it is non-judgmental and supportive, and offers you the opportunity to speak openly and frankly knowing your confidentiality is maintained.
